Head & Shoulders Truly Works

We are in the midst of January here in Texas, but the weather has been up…and down…then back up again! It was 77 degrees today can you believe that? The changes in temperature do a number on my hair and skin. As a result, I get chapped lips, dry skin, and a dry scalp. If that doesn’t sound attractive I don’t know what does? One of my favorite colors of clothing to wear is black. However, black is not a great color to wear if you are flaky, and it's 77 degrees outside. Everyone else knows that’s not snow on your shoulders!

I tend to be a little flaky. And I’m not talking about my timeliness or lack of responsibility. It seems that during the winter, it’s not only my skin that gets dry. My scalp gets all kinds of flakes, which is totally awesome since my hair is almost black. Those white flakes don’t show at all! (yeah right.) Despite these issues, I never try dandruff shampoos because I am afraid they will smell like zinc and will strip my beautifully applied hair color (H would not be a happy camper).

My scalp has always been dry, itchy, and flaky. As long as I can remember, I have tried to find a balance between a clean scalp and conditioned curls. I try to only shampoo my hair once or twice a week and simply rinse with conditioner daily. For the past two months, I have been using Head and Shoulders Eucalyptus line. My scalp is cleaner and significantly less flaky than usual.

recently received two bottles from Head & Shoulders. It is their Apple Hair Care Shampoo and Conditioner. And man, oh man. Not only do I love it. The whole family does! Every time I go to grab it before I get in the shower I have to search the bathrooms. More often than not, it's tucked away in my husband's shower! My husband and I, and two of our three children, struggle with flakes.

Reviewing Head & Shoulders Itchy Scalp formula was so much fun, I agreed to do it again, this time with their Head & Shoulders Apple Shampoo and Conditioner. This may well be my first dandruff free winter. It also leaves a nice, light apple scent with minimal fuss. That's important because I have way more important things to do with my time then mess with my hair. Like homeschool my children, care for the livestock and run a jewelry business.

I choose not to complain about my hair too much. It's long, thick, naturally wavy, and does splendidly even when only washed a couple times a week. It'll hold a curl or straighten easily. When I ask the hairdresser to lop off six inches or so, my words are always met with horror. "You want me to cut that much off? But it's pretty!" And that's nice. Of course, there's a flip-side to every coin, right? My hair IS long. And color-treated.

You know, I am getting really lucky with all of these reviews lately because this is the perfect time in my life to try new products! I've used Head & Shoulders before (and have even reviewed them here on this blog!), and I was so excited to try this particular shampoo and conditioner. The Head & Shoulders Apple Hair Care set not only left my hair softer than usual, but the apple scent - and I think this is a huge bonus - really energized me and made me feel (and smell!) brand new.

Okay, so, the story goes that there was a girl who used to think dandruff shampoo was...well, weird. Don't ask her why, she really doesn't know, but in any event, she just breezed right past that section of the shampoo aisle without a second glance to those "itchy scalp" shampoos. Then, one day, she had the opportunity to try out some of that "weird" shampoo ...and LOW AND BEHOLD!! it actually, wasn't weird! It was...well...it was wonderful!

During the winter, I get super dry, itchy scalp, especially here in LA where the weather changes every few days. My skin and scalp can't keep up! Earlier this winter, I reviewed some Head & Shoulders shampoo and conditioner. It was great! It left my hair flake-free (something I was battling with the dry winter air) and feeling fresh and clean. The smell of the eucalyptus one wasn’t medicinal at all – it was pleasant, and even tingled a little which was a nice wake-up in my morning shower. So when BlogHer asked me to review Head & Shoulders’s new Green Apple scented shampoo and conditioner, I was more than happy!

In November I did a blog post telling you all about how much I liked Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care Products. In the post I explained how I've been plagued with an itchy dry scalp all of my adult life. At the time I tried the shampoo and conditioner, I had only tried it for two weeks. Over that trial time, my scalp itch had gotten better, and the flaking had greatly improved.

I was given the opportunity to try Head & Shoulders Apple shampoo and conditioner recently and wanted to share my experience. You may remember I tried their Eucalyptus shampoo and conditioner a while back and loved it, so of course I was excited to try this product! Because I am going natural (no more chemically processed hair), I don’t wash my hair with shampoo as much as I used to.

I was on vacation in Australia for 17 days and arrived home on December 31st. It was an amazing trip, BUT after twenty-four hours of traveling and more than two and a half weeks away from home, all I wanted was to take a hot shower in my own bathroom and sleep in my own bed. I opened the door to our house, walked in to a pile of mail and holiday packages, and started the long process of sorting bills and washing my dirty, smelly clothes.

In the middle of Christmas shopping, and grocery shopping for all the guests for the holidays, I ran out of my favorite shampoo. When I say favorite, I don't mean I like the shampoo; I mean it is my hair's favorite shampoo. My hair just won't cooperate without this shampoo; this shampoo is the only one that keeps my hair from getting dried out, tangled, and frizzy-all at the same time. Except, it was Christmas day, and I still had not remembered to make that special stop at the beauty store for my shampoo.

Well guess what? I was lucky enough to do another review of another set of the new shampoo and conditioner line. Yay! This time I was able to use and review the Head & Shoulders Green Apple Care product. And guess what? Now I’m at a total standstill. I’m smitten with my minty goodness Itchy Scalp Care pair, but the Green Apple Care has swept me off of my feet!

As many of you know, I've been using Head & Shoulders Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care since my review and giveaway back in November 2011 and have been pleased as punch with the results. In fact, I've been using it so consistently I was thrilled when I was asked to review Head & Shoulders Green Apple Hair Care, because I was just about running out of the Eucalyptus Itchy Scalp Care shampoo and conditioner! My hair suffers during the winter months for one simple reason: I wear hats. A lot.

Despite my hair not being cut or colored professionally in the last zillion years, I have been enjoying my calm, flake-free scalp thanks to the shampoo and conditioner Head and Shoulders sent me to review back in the fall. I'm really enjoying it, especially now, in this terrible below-freezing weather. It's easy to resist the urge to scratch my head like a monkey in public when it doesn't itch in the first place.

Surviving Winter Hair With Head & Shoulders

January is such an icky time of the year, at least here in Ohio. The winter weather has set in, and with it comes a wrecking ball of dry, cold air aimed at my hair and skin. It seems like no amount of moisturizer is enough to tame the sensitive skin on my face, and my hair has that lovely winter combo of oily on the scalp and filled with static on the ends. The dry weather always seems to irritate my scalp more, too, resulting in dandruff and itching.
